Unlike iPhone users who have had the luxury of checking their device’s battery health stats directly from their settings, Android owners have had to resort to third-party apps or special command codes to assess their battery health.
Rahman points out that the Pixel Feature Drop for this month has already made strides in providing more battery information, displaying the battery’s manufacture date and cycle count.
However, it’s the Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 update that steals the spotlight by introducing a hidden “battery health” page.
Although the current version of this page lacks a concrete battery health meter, Rahman’s exploration of the code hints at potential features.
This includes the ability to showcase information like the “estimated percentage of charge the battery can currently hold compared to when it was new.”
Additionally, Rahman discovered icons within the code that seemingly represent scenarios such as reduced battery capacity or the device not detecting the battery.
The Settings app is also expected to send “tips” when there are updates related to battery health, like instances when the phone cannot detect the battery or when the battery health is degraded.
For iPhone users accustomed to having battery health information readily available for years, this might seem like a basic feature. However, for Android users, this represents a notable step forward, bringing the battery health indicator directly into the standard Settings app.
This development holds significance, especially as genuine repair parts, including batteries, and self-repair guides become more widely accessible to users.
